An October Half Term Day Out

Ok so October in Cornwall can be a tricky time of year to keep the family entertained, it's not really sunbathing weather, or swimming weather and definitely not BBQ-on-the-beach weather! So what else do on these cloudy autumn days? ☁️❄️🍂🍁

Cue bike hire! 🚲🚲

The perfect day out with an easy but rewarding cycle route and a great lunch destination at the end of it 🙌 Solo, children, dogs - it seems to suit everyone!

Choosing your Cornwall Bike Hire

Lakeside Cycles was opened by local ex-Navy, Shawn, this May and is stocked with high spec bikes for any needs, including children's bikes and toddler bike trailers.

All bikes are rented with helmets and locks plus Shawn makes everything extra easy by helping to choose your perfect bike and the trail - including a lunch recommendation!

(Although the Mussel Shoal was closed 😭 a perfect excuse to go back again I guess!)

Shawn also does bike servicing and repairs at the lakeside and has built quite a local following.

Be sure to call by if you're be bringing your own wheels!

Penrose-Loe Bar-Porthleven Route

The cross-country trail takes you through Penrose National Trust Park and along the edge of The Loe, leading all the way to Porthleven.

It's a varied route through the woods, along the lake and over the coast path. This view was particularly spectacular 👀

With a pitstop at The Stables cafe for a cinnamon bun pick-me-up (>>>)

and

countless viewpoints overlooking the impressive white sandy strip of Loe Bar it's no marathon cycle if you'd rather take it easy.

Geared with our bike locks and map of the cycle paths (thanks for that Shawn, we definitely needed it 😅) we headed for Porthleven, dogs in tow!

They ran along side and loved every minute of it - although couldn't sleep quickly enough when they reached the car at the end of the day 🐶

Lunch in Porthleven

We certainly geared up an appetite and hit the town ready for lunch, spoilt with the likes of:

Our cycle home we did a bit of a shortcut (we're unfit and were full on pints and pasties 🐷😂)

but apparently the opposite side of The Loe is even more spectacular and we plan to explore it at our next visit with some cycling-enthusiast family members!

A big thanks to Shawn at Lakeside Cycles for opening our eyes to the perfect October activity and inviting us down - we're all knackered (dog's included!) but oh, what a day! 😴😴
