OCL’s Favourite Out-Of-Season Cornish Hotel Holidays 🍁❄️

1. The One with the Hot Tub

This wonderful hotel could also be known as 'the dog friendly one', 'the one with the insane food', 'the one that's No. 1 for a reason'... The list goes on!

Nestled quite literally just beyond the sea, the Talland Bay Hotel offers incredible views, even

more incredible food and even even more incredible rooms.

I mean ours had a rainfall shower, underfloor heating, private stairs to outside (godsend for the late night outing with the dogs 🙌) and terrace WITH hot tub... Need I say more?!

We were totally spoilt by hotel manager, Jack, and the team we never wanted to leave - even the dogs were treated to their own 'overnight bags' and restaurant bowls of chicken 🍗

Safe to say they also were less keen to return to normal life (picture of said ginger lunatic living his best life >>)

The food is almost difficult to describe because it was so damn FANTASTIC. Both of us came away saying it was honestly some of the best we have ever eaten. Too many dishes to choose from - we were even treated to a mini-main extra as we quite literally couldn't make a decision 😅 (thank you Jack) and couldn't face missing out on the duck - just make sure you go hungry!

You can walk easily to Talland Bay within 10 minutes from your room making it truly one of the most dog-friendly hotels we have ever been to. The whole stay felt just so easy ✨

Recommended dish: Aged Short Rib Bourguignon (but also the fillet steak, the duck, the crab cake... I could go on!)

Recommended drink: Trevibben Mill Harlyn (an English white wine)

2. The Cosy One

Next up is The Plume of Feathers, found in the quiet village of Mitchell just outside of Newquay. Super easy access as it's off A30 and sister pub to Lewennick Lodge in Pentire, it's a particularly good spot to know about if you want somewhere with good food, comfy rooms and a good base to visit east and west!

It has everything a quintessential country pub should have from a roaring fire (or 2!), low ceilings with exposed beams, cute barn conversion-style B&B rooms and a fantastic gastropub menu to keep you fed after a good Sunday walk.

We have had the pleasure of visiting multiple times (for food only) and only ever in winter as it has a certain cold-weather-snuggle-up charm that only a true pub b&b seems to achieve.

The rooms are spacious, modern yet totally comfortable and the stand-alone bathtub ready for some serious R&R. Rooms include standard double, deluxe double and luxury double plus family rooms, all are dog friendly too! Rooms can be part of B&B to include a generous breakfast menu (the bacon, egg and caramelised onion is highly recommended!).

Recommended dish: Duck Noodle Pot 🦆

Recommended drink: Spiced Apple (a fabulously festive cocktail 🍏🍸)

3. The One with a Private Cove

A refreshed Hotel Meudon is next on our list of must-visit hidden hotels. A beautifully peaceful and grown up hotel with a stunningly stylish bar and restaurant yet with a hidden surprise outdoors. The decor is elegant and refined, we felt very well looked after for every minute of our stay.

Whether it's a little wellness weekend (yes - there is a yoga, personal training etc on offer), a food-fest mini-break (yes - there is breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, supper, cocktails...) or a cold water swimming session (yes - there's a cove, a full on secluded cove with towels at the ready!), you're in for a full hotel stay at Meudon.

Despite a grey day (thank you Cornwall), we wandered through a tropical jungle-like garden ready to strip off and run into the sea!

Armed with luxurious complimentary towels, a swim in Bream Cove is the ideal way to earn your next meal (or at the very least a stiff/hot drink 🥃☕️)

The food was perfectly presented, the service flawless and the NZ Sauvignon Blanc was one of the best I've ever tasted!

Recommended dish: Smoked Mackerel Hummus 🐟

Recommended drink: (something a little different) Chateau Mignets Sauternes 🥃

4. The Honeymoon One

A special place for us, seeing as it was *quite literally* our honeymoon one 💍, the Lugger of Portloe. With multiple hotel rooms and a special 'cottage' just across the slipway (perfect for a specific occasion may I add!) this petite boutique hotel is everything one could hope for as a truly coastal escape.

With restaurant views overlooking the teeny-tiny harbour, if you're lucky you may even get to watch the fishermen arrive back from their catch at breakfast.

The cottages provide a little more freedom and privacy plus sleep up to 6 people under one roof, all while providing the benefit of the hotel's close-by amenities.

>>>> Not to mention the standalone bathtub with EPIC views 👀

Portloe, located on the Roseland Peninsula, is a tiny village with a single road in and out, with enough colourful houses to brighten the greyest of days 🌈. With only one other pub it's the perfect place to hide yourself away in the depths of rural Cornwall, surrounded only by cliff paths and fishing boats.

Recommended dish: their take on The Prawn Cocktail

Recommended drink: a Bloody Mary (off menu but made specially for me and it was 🍅👌)
